Legend has it that Manali has been named after Manu, the legendary figure of the Hindu ancient scriptures, who is said to be the progenitor of the human race. It is also believed that the Saptarishis (seven celestial sages) had lived here.

Lord Hanuman’s mother meditated here

We’ve heard of a large snow-made Shivling of Amarnath. But, there is one in Manali’s snow-capped peaks too! As per a local legend, Lord Hanuman’s mother Anjani had meditated and worshipped Lord Shiva where the Shivaling exists today.

A mini-Israel exists near Manali

Kasoli is a small town near Manali where you can find cafés and crowds of Israelis. Even the food menu is all in Hebrew. Here, people greet each other with a Shalom instead of a Namaste, and Israeli flags can be seen at different points.

Location and weather

Manali comprises three hills adjacent to each other, each having a village and an old shrine. Manali is one of the coldest places in India with temperatures in winter dropping to extreme levels.
